Homemade Croutons

Simple ingredients come together to create these croutons. Croutons are great topping on salads, soups, or chili. Homemade croutons also help address the problem of what to do with left over bread! The best part about this recipe is that you don't need to measure anything!

Ingredients
  

  • several slices of left over Italian bread
  • extra virgin olive oil
  • kosher salt
  • black pepper
  • garlic powder
  • oregano
  • paprika

Instructions
 

  • On a parchment lined cookie sheet, place left over Italian bread so they are flat and even.
  • Drizzle extra virgin olive oil over top of bread.
  • Sprinkle the kosher salt, pepper, garlic powder, oregano, and paprika over the Italian bread.
  • Flip the bread over to the other side and repeat the olive oil and seasoning process.
  • Place in a pre-heated 350 degree oven and bake until golden brown.
  • Remove from oven and let cool.
  • Once cool to the touch, slice the toasted bread into cube shapes.
  • Now they are ready for your soups, salads, or chili. Enjoy!

Notes

**Ovens: Gas vs Electric Ovens. **
Gas ovens can bake hotter, if yours does reduce the baking temperature to 325 degrees to avoid getting a burnt outside edge on your loaf. 
Electric ovens can bake cooler.  There is a 20 to 25 degree difference in how an electric oven bakes compared to a gas oven.  If you find that your electric oven generally takes longer to bake things, increase the temperature to 375 degrees to get the same result as baking at 350 degrees.
